Classic Car Insurance Requirements

Antique vehicle insurance is only created for secondary vehicles. The insurance is not meant to cover these types of vehicles for everyday driving. However, if a classic car is your primary vehicle, you will need to make sure that you obtain standard auto insurance to protect it. Just like the minimum requirement for standard auto insurance is 5/15/30, if you plan on using your classic car for daily use, you will need to make sure that you obtain the same minimum requirements in California.

Classic Car Insurance Coverage

The coverage that is available for classic vehicles is the same that is available for standard auto insurance policies, including:

Comprehensive - If your antique vehicle is damaged from theft, vandalism, or weather, this will pay for your repair or replacement expenses.
Collision - If your antique vehicle is damaged due to an accident with another car, this will cover your repair or replacement expenses.
Medical payments - No matter who is at fault for an accident, if you and or your passengers sustain injuries from an accident, this will cover you and your passenger’s medical and funeral expenses.
Uninsured/underinsured - This operates the same way on standard auto policies. If you are involved in an accident with another motorist who doesn’t have enough insurance, this will cover your medical expenses. The other driver will also have to be at fault.
